What is post-construction cleaning?

Post-construction cleaning is the specialized deep clean that removes the fine dust, debris, adhesive residue, and grime left behind after building or remodeling work. It goes well beyond standard housekeeping: crews use HEPA-filtered vacuums and microfiber damp-wiping to capture silica-laden construction dust from every surface, vent, and fixture so a space is safe and ready to use.

Ordinary house cleaning pushes construction dust around; post-construction cleaning captures and removes it. Drywall sanding, tile cutting, and demolition create ultra-fine particles that settle inside cabinets, on top of door frames, in HVAC vents, and across every horizontal surface — which is why a dedicated final clean is the step that actually makes a renovated space usable.

How much does post-construction cleaning cost in Houston?

Most Houston post-construction cleans run about $0.20 to $0.50 per square foot for a residential final clean — roughly $250 to $600 for a single-room remodel and $450 to $1,200 for a whole-home renovation. Commercial build-outs are usually quoted per square foot or by scope. The exact price depends on square footage, how much dust and debris is present, and the level of finish detail required.

What's included in a final clean?

A final clean covers every interior surface top to bottom: HEPA-vacuuming and damp-wiping walls, ceilings, and trim; cleaning inside cabinets, drawers, and closets; removing grout haze and adhesive from floors; detailing windows, tracks, and sills; degreasing the kitchen and sanitizing bathrooms; and wiping light fixtures, vents, outlets, and switch plates. The goal is a dust-free, move-in-ready space.

  • HEPA-vacuum and damp-wipe all walls, ceilings, baseboards, and trim
  • Clean inside and outside of cabinets, drawers, shelves, and closets
  • Remove grout haze, thinset, and adhesive from tile and hard floors
  • Detail windows, frames, tracks, and sills; remove stickers and paint specks
  • Degrease and sanitize kitchen and bathroom surfaces and fixtures
  • Wipe light fixtures, ceiling fans, vents, outlets, and switch plates
  • Final floor treatment — vacuum, mop, and (where needed) polish

Residential vs commercial post-construction cleaning

Both remove construction dust and debris, but they differ in scale and scheduling. Residential post-renovation cleaning focuses on detailed, occupant-ready results in homes — kitchens, baths, and living spaces after a remodel. Commercial and builders' clean-ups cover larger square footage, phased rough / final / touch-up cleans, and coordination with general contractors on active job sites, often against tight handover deadlines.

Why a specialist crew matters

Construction dust is fine, abrasive, and often contains crystalline silica — the reason we follow OSHA-aligned silica-dust practices and use HEPA filtration rather than shop vacuums that recirculate particles.

The wrong products can also ruin new finishes: acidic cleaners etch natural stone, and the wrong pad scratches fresh glass. We match methods and products (including stone-safe options such as Lithofin) to each surface so a brand-new space stays brand-new.
